Welcome to Chortle!

Hi! If you’re reading this, you’ve just found one of the rare parts of the internet where laughter still exists. I’m Greg, the founder and editor around these parts. Each weekday, Chortle publishes a new piece of short humor, new, whether it’s:

  • Essays

  • Comics

  • Lists

  • Commentary + Reaction

  • Something else we made up because we ran out of ideas.

If you like the sharp wit of McSweeney’s, Shouts and Murmurs, or The AV Club, there’s a good chance you’ll like us, too. Go ahead and subscribe to make sure you never miss a chortle.

Who’s Chortle for?

This is a place for people who love clever writing, sharp humor, and the occasional well-earned curse word. If you could use a break from doomscrolling and think the world needs more laughter, then you’re already our kind of person.

Why I Started Chortle

I’m a longtime writer and performer who has spent years in the entertainment industry, working for places like Netflix and Nickelodeon and performing onstage with the Upright Citizens Brigade in LA. I’ve seen firsthand how hard it’s become to get original ideas into the world. So I created Chortle to bring humor straight to the people.
