Adam Dietz and Troy Doetch are a famed writing duo with work appearing in McSweeney's, Points in Case, and Slackjaw. They co-wrote the first three Rocky movies.
True-crime podcasts are all the rage, but it can be hard to know where to begin, much less to keep up with all the newest offerings. Here’s our round-up of recent murder podcasts that promise plenty of twists, turns, and a tone that makes you wonder if it’s okay to be listening to this.
Blood Boyz
Hosted by Baltimore comedy troupe Guys and Balls, this podcast takes the fairly insensitive approach of having each host imagine themselves in the shoes of a real-life murder victim, then discussing how they would avoid being killed. While you’d think this premise would at least be ripe for distasteful comedy, it actually runs out of steam pretty quickly. Most episodes end with the hosts all agreeing that they would “overpower the killer,” even though they are all semi-professional improvisers under 5'8”.
Call Her Stabby
Call Her Stabby is a dating advice show for women who watched Dahmer and thought Evan Peters was a snack. To her credit, host Viviana seems to realize many of her guests are severely broken and advises against becoming romantic pen-pals with violent offenders. Still, this podcast probably should have ended when Viviana became a person of interest in an ongoing FBI case for the third time.
A Thyme To Kill
Part-cooking show and part-murder podcast, married couple Dave and Ava cook the favorite foods of serial killers—then rate each dish out of five bottles of Chianti. As you’d expect, it’s a lot of rare steaks, which Dave and Ava eat so loudly on-mic that it will have you wondering what exactly they keep behind the Patreon paywall. While A Thyme To Kill will neither help you become a better cook nor teach you about true crime, it is likely to be the last thing you listen to before you start to restrict your screen time on your iPhone.
How I Met Your Murder
A celebrity rewatch podcast with a twist! Josh Radnor and Cobie Smulders team up to relive episodes of their hit show, How I Met Your Mother, plus read a Wikipedia synopsis of a gruesome murder that took place on the night the episode premiered. Did you know that the original airing of “Slap Bet” was interrupted by a press conference about a BTK copycat? Facts like this will leave you wondering, “Why are they doing this?” and “Didn’t they already make enough money on that show?”
KNIFE CITY! presented by the Calm app
Buckle-up! Two diagnosed sociopaths who met at an Insane Clown Posse concert bring you stomach-churning violence, sponsored by America’s most popular meditation app. Episodes don’t so much have topics or segments as much as they veer chaotically from one gory detail to the next, with only an unsettlingly realistic stabbing sound as a transition—brought to you by Calm, the only app with over 100 sleep stories to help with nighttime anxiety. And you’re going to need something for that anxiety after just a few minutes of KNIFE CITY!
She Had It Coming
Tech bros by day and murder podcasters by day as well, Aden and Adrian are just asking questions, so don’t come after them, alright? But as a thought experiment, just to play devil’s advocate, so to speak, the two consider what female murder victims might have done to play a role in the events that unfolded. Each incredibly distasteful episode dares to ask the question: What if she deserved it? As Aden's famous catchphrase goes, “It takes two to tango,” and as Adrian’s goes, “I didn’t have a great relationship with my mom.”

Shows That Aren't On BritBox, But Should Be
Sure, we all know about Downton Abbey, but it turns out there’s a whole universe of rain-soaked detectives and clumsy butlers out there.
Songs My Toddler Loves, Ranked by Unseemliness
Like most toddlers, my 3-year-old loves to listen to music in the car. But unlike everyone else his age, he doesn’t want “Baby Shark” on repeat. No, his favorite songs are the ones that I regret ever playing in his presence.
Halfway through I forgot I was reading Chortle and really excited to listen to these.
You forgot the fava beans.
