Date: February 12, 2025
Time: 9:07 AM (meeting delayed due to “National Sleep-In Day”)
1. Call to Order
Chairperson Shelly called the meeting to order at 9:07 AM.
2. Attendance
Present:
Shelly, observing “National Independent Thinking Day”
Elliot, also observing “National Independent Thinking Day”
Fitzgerald, observing “National Deja Vu Day,” once again
Dante, observing “National Frankie Muniz Appreciation Day”
Guest Observer: Rex, observing “National Observation Day”
Absent:
Beckett, absent due to “National Truancy Awareness Day”
3. Approval of Previous Minutes
The minutes from the last meeting were approved with one correction: “National Day of Pronunciation” was misread as “National Day of Enunciation.”
4. To Review
Chairperson Shelly reminded everyone that the Committee agreed to postpone discussion of “National Procrastination Day” until the next meeting.
Chairperson Shelly reminded Elliot that the existence of “National Deodorant Day” does not imply limitations on its use otherwise.
The committee reviewed several recent National Days:
“National Disappointment Day” exceeded expectations and the Committee should consider revamping.
“National Best Friend Day” accomplished the Committee's goal of letting non-best friends know that they aren’t as close as they thought.
The Committee initiated several editions of “National Ice Cream Day.” Nobody seems to be noticing that it happens way more than once a year, so full steam ahead on further expansion.
5. New Business
Local news channels and corporate social media managers have been urgently requesting more national days per day to fill increasing content needs.
The Committee opened the floor to proposals for new National Days:
Proposal #1: The Committee approved an increase in National Days to three Days per Day to get the most Days out of our Days.
Proposal #2: The Committee rejected “National Shelly Take Me Back, I Promise I Can Change Day.” Elliot was overruled.
Proposal #3: The Committee rejected Fitzgerald’s proposal establishing “National Deja Vu Day,” once again.
6. Budget Matters
Treasurer reported that 90% of the budget was spent on decorations, a band, and custom t-shirts for the “National Austerity Awareness Day” jamboree. Will need to scale back on party for “National Extravagance Day.”
7. Announcements
Members reminded to submit receipts for expenses related to “National Office Supply Hoarding Day.”
8. Adjournment
Meeting adjourned at 11:42 AM.
The Committee’s next meeting is scheduled for March 14, 2024 — “National Meeting Day!”
