Anonymous President: Have you guys seen Breaking Bad?

Chortle presents a special op-ed from an unnamed politician.

Just after President Biden ended his reelection bid in July, Chortle published this op-ed regarding peer pressure, which was sent to us by an “anonymous president” using the email address jblovestrains@earthlink.net.

The piece received a great deal of blowback from high-profile journalists and other publishers, who felt it was irresponsible to share without first confirming its origins. What if it was a psyop from Russia or Iran designed to adversely influence our election?

This gave us a lot to think about. Obviously, in 2016, these same reporter combed through Hillary Clinton’s leaked emails like a bullying brother who suddenly found their little sister’s secret diary, but perhaps they genuinely regret those decisions. Ultimately, Chortle instituted a rigorous set of journalistic guidelines to ensure that future publishing decisions are made with caution and guided by a strict moral code.

But it turns out the rules are super lame and kind of hard to remember. So, inspired by fellow Substacker
