3QQ interview: Jiavani on Partying
The dynamic actror and comedian explains how to live your best life.
Welcome to 3QQ: Three Questions from Quora, our series of interviews in which a guest expert joins me to field strange and interesting questions posed on Quora.com (the internet’s oddest knowledge repository).
Jiavani is an actor/comedian extraordinaire who you might recognize from the Between Two Ferns: The Movie or any number of Dropout TV shows.
More importantly, if you walk into a room and Jiavani is there, you know the vibes are going to to be good. In fact, I think of her as a party in human form. So what better topic to ask her about than my own anxiety’s sworn nemesis… partying.
How does one stay up all night partying?
JIAVANI: The key to staying up all night partying is a well-timed late afternoon nap. If you’re serious about an all-night bacchanal, I'd recommend a morning workout, an afternoon nap, and friends who make you happy.
In general: meet some new people, change locations, stay open to whatever. It can also be fun to have a game or a goal with your friends, like "spot the coolest shoes of the night" or "meet an artist and follow them on social media."
Also, save room for a big meal after the dancing is done, and it’s like an hour until sunrise. Then, go crazy at a diner or a taco shop to really top things off.
What was the most insane party you've ever attended?
JIAVANI: The most insane party I ever attended was probably the Equinox employee holiday party circa 2016. They rented out a cool nightclub in Hollywood for employees from every branch in Los Angeles and had an open bar. We were all doing free shots of Don Julio and anything else that we couldn't normally afford. It escalated QUICKLY.
I witnessed a lot of surprising interdepartmental hooking up (manager + cleaner, personal trainer + aesthetician + membership salesperson, etc.); I got into an intense physical altercation with a twink from another branch over whose friend was prettier; I reconciled with a spa manager I hated through the power of the dance floor; I watched a massage therapist smash his own watch with a potted plant, and then convinced him to order an Uber for me and my friends to go to In-N-Out. The whole party was just fighty-sexy-loving-hair down, fucktt up, turntt up, work stranger chaos.
Honorable Mention: Doing molly with comedians from around the world after we all just performed at a festival in Toronto.
Is partying equivalent to wasting your life and why?
JIAVANI: Partying is not equivalent to wasting your life away unless that's all you do. You could waste your life away with anything: Work, Sleep, Worry, Mindless Scrolling, Time with People Who Don't Get You, anything that's not in moderation. But celebration is important because this life is precious and should be savored alongside the people who we've been lucky enough to connect with while we're here.
Partying, big or small, can be special. There are lots of ways to party. Cherish the joy of gathering. Dance your demons out. Toast your loved ones. Share amazing food. Enjoy living.
