In light of recent federal indictments, troubling commentary from our athletes, and a potential Congressional inquiry, we—the commissioners of the NBA, MLB, NFL, and NHL—feel compelled to address a crisis that threatens the very foundation of professional sports. The depth of our concern is such that we are issuing this completely unprecedented joint statement, which is sponsored by our friends at DraftKings.
The magic of sports lies in its unpredictability. A single penalty can shift momentum, a buzzer-beater can change everything, and that volatility is what keeps fans coming back. Some critics might suggest that partnering with DraftKings creates a conflict of interest for us. We understand this concern. That’s why we discussed it as a group in the FanDuel Digital ThinkPit, which is essentially a monetizable version of Zoom where you can wager on meeting variables like who will forget to unmute their microphone.
Our conclusion was unanimous: we should not limit ourselves to one sports gambling partnership.
