Spotify recently informed me that my most-listened-to genre is now Children’s Folk. While this is unsurprising, considering how frequently I put on cutesy melodies to soothe my screaming toddler these days, it’s still a crushing blow to the ego.

I used to be extremely confident that I had good taste in music, although I’m now guessing that’s a fairly universal feeling for anyone who identifies music listening or playing as part of their identity. (Even devotees of pirate metal and Nintendocore are probably big snobs about it.) Furthermore, I was certain that my tastes wouldn’t calcify. I knew I’d keep discovering new artists as I got older, because I would always be a Good Music Guy.

And in a way, I was right! I have continued to discover new artists. They are just 100% Children’s Folk artists.
