Come on, Maypole! Pull yourself together...are you forgetting all the places you are still beloved? Well, when I say all...they're all practically speaking in British Columbia, but this place is Maypole central...I mean the whole nine yards, pole, ribbons, girls with crowns of daisies in their hair...you've got island hippies, you've got old British colonial types who hate to let a good thing go. Well... the descendants of old British colonial types, who no doubt run kids' little league games and and drink beer as part of it. (I mean you can't blame them...your schtick is that one dancing around and tangling ribbons thing, but little league is little league)...anyway...you're alive and well here!
They do dance at dawn on May 1st in our park! And the people doing the dancing say it's still done all over the world.... just without the Maypole I guess.
Awww, I'm sorry buddy. You'll always live on in lore, poetry and maybe one day someone will make a horror film out of you with lots of sequels! Those are really big these days! Like Mauled at the Maypole. Or a song...Mackin at the Maypole. Or a Notebook type movie Memories of the Maypole.
The maypole is still a huge deal here in southern Bavaria. Every village has their own pole. In the first of May, villages have Mayfest celebrations where everyone dresses up in traditional clothes and watches the new maypole go up. It’s fascinating. I had no idea it was once banned though. Is that true?
Pole dancing on the devil's throne? What kind of smut is this?

Midsommar might count!
The story of Thomas Morton and Merrymount would make a great movie.

Sounds like a party!
Yeah, in the 1600’s Oliver Cromwell banned it in England for being “heathenish.” It was basically the rap music of its day…
