
It’s August! That means we’re celebrating National Dog Month here in America, and what a rich history it has:

Dogs have been our companions for thousands of years, so it’s about time we had a month dedicated to them. Given our long shared history, you may think you know everything about canines. Not so fast! Here are some trivia tidbits that may surprise you.
New Factoids for National Dog Month
While science once considered dogs’ closest relatives to be wolves, recent DNA research indicates that they’re actually very similar to giant squids.
Walt Disney intended for Goofy and Pluto to be the first openly gay couple in animation, but his lawyers got cold feet at the last minute.
The Bible contains numerous references to dogs, most notably in the Book of Psalms: “Who art a good boy? Thou art a good boy! Oh yes thou art!”
